Ken Kaneki is the main character of the manga and anime series Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul:re. He is a young student leading a peaceful life in his first year of Japanese Literature at Kamii University. Until the day when a terrible accident happens to him. Ken is attacked by a ghoul that pierces his organs in his stomach. Fortunately, he is saved by a falling metal beam that kills the ghoul instantly. The young student in a critical state has the ghoul's organs transplanted at the hospital so that he can survive, becoming an artificial ghoul in spite of himself.Before becoming a half ghoul, Ken was a rather solitary and reserved young man having only one friend named Hideyoshi Nagachika whom he calls "Hide".
