William Wallace is the hero of the film Braveheart, which traces the history of the struggle for Scottish independence. The film takes place in the 13th century when King Edward I of England occupies Scotland and imposes a cruel law.William Wallace is a peasant, he has just secretly married Murron MacClannough, his childhood sweetheart, and intends to live a life away from the troubles imposed by the English.
