Mushu is one of the main characters in Mulan, a Disney cartoon inspired by a Chinese legend, released in 1988. This legend tells the story of a young woman who disguises herself as a man to go to battle against the Ruanruans instead of her too old father. She fights for many years before it is realized that she is a woman. At the beginning of Mulan's story, China is invaded by the Huns, led by their terrible leader Shan Yu. The emperor then decrees the mobilization of one man per family to go and fight. The Fa family is also called to join the army. Fa Zhou, Mulan's father is too old and walks with a cane. He will surely not survive another battle Mulan begs the army not to summon his father, but Fa Zhou must honor the family. He accepts and returns home without his cane, like a dignified man, proud to protect his country. Mulan refuses to let her father be killed out of honor, so she decides to go in his place. After a prayer to the ancestors, she cuts her hair with a sword, takes her father's armour and goes to her parents' bedroom to collect the conscription order, leaving her comb decorated with a flower. She leaves with the horse in the rain. When her family discovers that she is gone, it is too late. Denouncing her would lead to her execution. The ancestors of the Fa family then decide to intervene by sending the most powerful of the gods serving the family: the great stone dragon. They entrust Mushu, the little dragon, with the mission of awakening this dragon. He inadvertently destroys the dragon and makes the ancestors believe that he has awakened the dragon. He decides to leave to protect Mulan by himself, helped by Cri-Kee. In spite of his small size, Mushu will be a precious help to Mulan and will add a touch of humor to the cartoon. On this Pop! figurine, we find Mushu, the little dragon and Cri-Kee. Mushu is a Chinese dragon and as in the cartoon, we find these pretty red and gold colors. Mushu is sitting on his hind legs, we find the details that make him a traditional Chinese dragon: the tail, no wings, a long moustache. The Pop! figurine represents Mushu with a wide smile and big eyes reminding us that he is a playful and joking dragon. His physical characteristics such as his ears and small blue-purple horns are well represented. Funko also represents in a very faithful way his dragon snout and his long yellow moustache. Mushu is accompanied by the little blue Cri-Kee cricket, Mulan's lucky charm offered by his grandmother. The two characters form an adorable duo and offer us beautiful comic scenes in the cartoon, they will go very well with Mulan's pretty figurine.
