Funko looks back on one of the most famous historical events in the United States in a POP "historical Moments" like the POP Movie Moments! The scene depicts George Washington crossing Delaware on December 26, 1776, in the middle of the War of Independence to repel the German army.Washington was then a general in the Continental Army and his situation was at its worst. The general had suffered many defeats, his stocks of food and ammunition were extremely low and his numbers were gradually being reduced. Washington then decided on a secret mission to regain control from the Germans and English.Thousands of men crossed the Delaware, led by George Washington. They managed to take the Germans by surprise in a battle where only three American soldiers were killed against a thousand prisoners at the Battle of Trenton! Washington's army resupplied itself with ammunition, weapons and food by plundering the Germans' resources. Soldiers also plundered rum barrels, the return crossing of Delaware will be more complex...The crossing of Delaware (which actually counts three crossings since Washington will cross Delaware again to repel the British who came to reinforce the Germans a few days later) is represented as an adventure in the fog of late December, a secret mission where the soldiers had orders of victory or death and where General Washington led his soldiers by being at the head of the boats. The POP figure of George Washington crossing the Delaware is inspired by Emanuel Leutze's painting although there are fewer characters on the boat than in Leutze's painting! The POP represents General Washington standing in the boat as he leads his army across the Delaware River. Wahsington wears his military uniform with a black jacket, beige pants and black and blue hat. He also holds a blanket in the colors of the American flag on his shoulders. On the POP, there are also two soldiers in the boat. They represent different colonies of the time. One of them is rowing, while the second is holding the American flag. It is moreover a historical inaccuracy (present on Leutze's painting) because the flag with the stars and stripes appeared only in 1777 while the crossing was made on December 26, 1776!Finally, this POP would not be a "Historical Moments" without the decor of the POP which is here the frozen water of Delaware. Funko pushed the details to the point of representing the blocks of ice, reminding the perilous crossing in the fog and icy waters at the end of December...
