George Washington is one of the founding fathers of the United States and was the first president elected in 1789 and gave his name to the capital of the first world power!Washington took an active part in the Seven Years' War, then in the War of Independence where he distinguished himself and was appointed head of the continental army. After the War of Independence, Washington withdrew from military and political life to return to his activities as a "planter" in Mount Vernon but returned to the forefront to contribute to the development of the U.S. Constitution.His military deeds, ideals and natural ability to rally and lead led to his election as the first President of the United States. His two mandates were mainly devoted to the financial independence of the United States, whose coffers were empty following a devastating War of Independence, and to the "new" position of the United States in the world by developing a careful foreign policy, especially with the French and British to maintain peace with Europe.There couldn't be a collection of "American History" POPs without a figurine featuring the first elected president of the United States!
