Ken Kaneki is the main character of the mangas Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul:re, written and drawn by Sui Ishida. Ken is a young and discreet student of Kamii University in his first year of Japanese Literature. He is passionate about literature and one day he meets a girl named Rize Kamishiro, also passionate about literature. They spend one day together to eat and to discuss in a coffee. Then in the evening, when Ken takes her home, Lize suddenly attacks her, inflicting a serious wound on her abdomen. It turns out that Rize is a powerful ghoul of rank S, and that she had the intention to devour the young man since the beginning. Luckily, Kaneki is saved by falling metal beams that kill Lize instantly. He is then brought urgently to the hospital where the doctors transplant him the organs of the young woman in order to save him, giving birth to a new Ken, half human and half ghoul.A few days after this drama, Ken realizes little by little that his body changes and that he has become an artificial ghoul, both human and ghoul.
