Yami Yugi is technically not the name of this character. A name that will not be revealed in this description in the sense that it is the quest of the character. Yu-Gi-Oh!, after having followed many scenaristic detours, will finally be centered around Yami Yugi's quest to discover his identity and, especially, his name. Before that, Yami Yugi will know different stages of development regarding his changing psyche. This one not being the same one between the first events of Yu-Gi-Oh! and at the end of those.When Yugi Muto, a young high school student who can't make friends, gets his hands on an Egyptian puzzle dating back to the time of the Pharaoh, it will take him several years to solve it. Once the last piece of the puzzle is assembled, the puzzle will reveal unsuspected powers. Inside this one, indeed, slumbers a dark soul which seizes the body of Yugi every time this one is in danger.Possessed by this spirit, Yugi, who became Yami Yugi in some episodes - Yami referring to the idea of the shadow - plays macabre games with his enemies. Little by little however, Yugi will learn to make the knowledge of this personality which seizes him in the moments of danger. He will learn that this personality is in fact the buried soul of a very ancient Egyptian pharaoh.The plot, thereafter, will lead Yugi and the pharaoh to discover many other objects of the Millennium resulting from the same tomb as the puzzle in which Yami Yugi is buried. The two, during duels of playing cards whose result will sometimes imply the disappearance in the world of darkness for the loser, will then face Pegasus then Marik and the Rare Hunter as well as Bakura with whom they share a common destiny.Yami Yugi will lead the duels by possessing Yugi with the agreement of this last. At first cruel and shameless, he will learn to soften thanks to friendship and will fight for others rather than for himself. With his master card The Dark Magician and other monsters from his deck, Yami Yugi will manage to counter and defeat the most fearsome duelists. These duelists bring him closer and closer to discovering his true identity, which he only remembers in bits and pieces.The Funko POP Yami Yugi figure is, of course, similar to Yugi.
