Mulan is the heroine of the famous eponymous cartoon, a creation of the Disney studios released in 1988. The cartoon tells the story of Mulan, the only daughter of Fa Zhou, a wounded former war hero, and Fa Li, who disguises herself as a man to go into battle in place of her father when the emperor orders the conscription of one man per family.
